The Green Bay Packers have confirmed that third year linebacker Edgerrin Cooper’s 2026 campaign is over after he suffered a torn Achilles. The injury represents a major setback for Cooper, but he made it clear on social media that he is already looking ahead and intends to return to the field.

Cooper shared 11 photos on social media alongside a brief message that reflected his mindset following the injury. “Can’t hold a soldier down forever,” he wrote in the caption.

The season ending injury is undoubtedly a difficult blow for Cooper, but his response suggests he is already shifting his attention toward the road back. Rather than dwelling on what happened, the linebacker made it clear that he intends to use this setback as motivation for his eventual return.

The injury occurred during a coverage assignment after Cooper initially showed pressure at the line of scrimmage. As he pivoted to move into his coverage responsibility, the linebacker suddenly went down without any contact from another player. Cooper remained on the field before being taken away in a cart, while the reaction from those around him immediately suggested that something serious had happened.

Cooper was already showing signs of a breakout 2026 season before his Achilles injury. After posting 3.5 sacks and an interception as a rotational rookie, Cooper became a full time starter in Year 2 and recorded 118 tackles.

Jonathan Gannon wanted him to make an impact in both coverage and as a pass rusher this season, and Cooper had 30 tackles and three sacks through four games, putting him on pace for the best year of his career.

The timing makes the injury even more difficult, as Cooper is heading into the final year of his rookie contract with his long term future now uncertain.
