Maharashtra Police pressuring CJP volunteers not to join October 10 Delhi protest, alleges Dipke

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday alleged that the Maharashtra Police were sending its volunteers notices stating that those joining the campaign’s protest against Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on Saturday will face legal action.

In a social media post, Dipke attached a picture of the purported notice issued by Chandrapur Police to a CJP supporter on Monday.

The notice said that the police had learnt that the person had planned to travel to Delhi to support Dipke in the proposed march and asked why he wanted to join the agitation, who was funding his participation and what was his objective.

It directed the person not to take part in the protest or any other agitation without permission, associate with “violent protesters”, post “violent” content on social media or make provocative speeches.

The letter warned the volunteer that preventive or criminal action could be taken against him if his actions lead to, or were likely to lead to, a cognisable offence.

The notice further stated that Section 37(1)(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, which empowers the authorities to prohibit public gatherings and processions to maintain public order, is in force in Chandrapur. It warned that legal action could be taken if he violated the order.
