SA20 auction for Season 5 is on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and only 19 places are up for grabs.

Better still, just four franchises will actually be bidding. Two teams already have full squads and will be watching from the sidelines.

CSA has shortlisted 156 players for the auction, sorted into four reserve price brackets of R200,000, R500,000, R1 million and R1.5 million. With so few slots and so many names, plenty of good cricketers will go unsold.

Every team can carry a maximum of 19 players, made up of 18 squad members and one Wildcard. A side can field no more than seven overseas players, and it must include at least 11 South Africans. Each squad also needs a minimum of two South African under-23 players.

SA20 2027 auction purse and squad status: How many slots each franchise has left

Joburg Super Kings (JSK) hold the strongest hand. They have 13 players, six slots to fill including one U-23 spot, and the highest purse at R20.6 million.

MI Cape Town also have six places to fill, with one U-23 requirement, but only R3.6 million to spend. That's a big gap between two teams in the same position.

Pretoria Capitals start with 14 players and need five more, though their purse is just R1.475 million.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape have 17 players and two slots left, with R9.35 million. Durban's Super Giants and Paarl Royals are full on 19 players each and have no money left, so they'll only be spectators.
