SAPS busts second multimillion-rand drug lab in THREE days

Five people have been arrested after police uncovered a suspected multimillion-rand drug manufacturing laboratory on a farm in Krugersdorp, Gauteng.
The arrests on Thursday, 8 October, follow a similar bust near Hartbeespoort Dam in North West earlier this week.

FIVE ARRESTED IN KRUGERSDORP RAID
SAPS Crime Intelligence at national head office and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), known as the Hawks, conducted the operation.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that all five suspects were South African nationals.
“Police have discovered quantities of Mandrax and ecstasy tablets at the suspected drug manufacturing laboratory,” Mathe said.
Senior police officers were expected to arrive at the property on Thursday morning as investigations continued.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the quantity or estimated street value of the drugs seized.

ANOTHER DRUG LAB BUSTED EARLIER THIS WEEK
On Tuesday, police raided a property in Scheerpoort near Hartbeespoort Dam, where they discovered a suspected Mandrax manufacturing operation.
Officers seized processed drugs, manufacturing equipment and four firearms, including a rifle and three handguns.
A 39-year-old Zimbabwean man and three women aged between 23 and 29 were arrested.
They face charges relating to drug manufacturing and dealing, as well as the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The two operations have resulted in nine arrests in three days.
Police have not indicated whether the laboratories are linked.
Investigations are ongoing.
