2 Broncos greats elected to Colorado Sports Hall of Fame

Two former Denver Broncos legends have been elected to the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. The Broncos announced that Ring of Fame center Tom Nalen and longtime PR executive Jim Saccomao have earned their place among some of the best athletes to pass through the state of Colorado on Friday morning. 

Nalen was a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time All-Pro, playing for the Broncos for his entire career from 1994-2007. Nalen was a two-time Super Bowl champion (1997 and 1998), anchoring the middle of the line for the late years of the John Elway regime and helping the Broncos through the transition seasons in the years after Elway retired.

Nalen also helped pave the way for several 1,000-yard rushers, and one 2,000-yard rusher in Hall of Famer Terrell Davis in 1998. Nalen played in 194 career games, starting 188 of them, which is second in Broncos history among position players, second only to John Elway in their career, according to a press release. Nalen was officially inducted into the Ring of Fame in 2013. 

Saccomano holds a special place in Colorado as the longest tenured pro sports administrator in state history, according to the Broncos’ official website. His four decades of service for the Broncos spanned their three Super Bowl appearances in the 1980s, and the team’s championship runs in 1997 and 1998.

Saccomano has earned league-wide recognition from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, winning its inaugural Award of Excellence in 2022 after covering 27 Super Bowls, according to the press release. Some of his other awards include the inaugural Pete Rozelle Award (for the best PR staff) in 1990 and the Charlie Callahan Award for Public Relations. The Broncos press box at Empower Field at Mile High was named in his honor in 2013. 

Nalen and Saccomano will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on April 15, 2027. You can read more about the two men and their contributions on the Broncos’ official website.
