Court orders release of CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka

A Delhi executive magistrate court on Sunday ordered the release of Cockroach Janta Party leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, the campaign’s legal head Ratna Singh said.

The court ordered their release on the condition that they maintain peace and do not breach it for one year, Singh added.

The three were detained on Saturday from inside an aircraft shortly after it landed in Delhi ahead of a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was also released from Gurugram Police custody in the early hours of Sunday, The Indian Express reported. He had been detained from his home ahead of Saturday’s protests.

The protests had been called by the Cockroach Janta Party political campaign and student groups affiliated to the Left parties.

Among the thousands detained during the day were former Chief Ministers Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, as well as journalists, including Scroll reporters Ayush Tiwari and Shoaib Daniyal in Delhi and Divya Aslesha in Pune.

Activists and lawyers, including activists Neha Bora, Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan and Jean Drèze, were also detained, along with other Opposition leaders and protesters.

The Delhi Police released all detainees on Saturday night except the Cockroach Janta Party leaders, The Indian Express reported.
