Ja’Marr Chase also left with a clear feeling of what needs to change.
Following Cincinnati’s 31-24 win over the Dolphins, Chase backed Joe Burrow’s call to eliminate avoidable mistakes when the Bengals return from their bye.
“I agree with him. It’s been dumb penalties,” Chase said, via CLNS Media's Mike Petraglia. “It ain’t been like something we ain’t been trying to do. It’s been like penalties on ourselves that we could control.”
Chase specifically identified holding and unsportsmanlike conduct among the problems Cincinnati needs to address. His emphasis was on players taking responsibility for mistakes they have the ability to prevent.
“It’s all of the above at the end of the day,” Chase said. “We gotta hold ourselves accountable and fix those opportunities.”

Sunday demonstrated a costly example. A Cincinnati roughing-the-snapper penalty during a Miami field goal attempt gave the Dolphins a first-and-goal occasion. Miami followed with a touchdown to tie the game at 7.
The Bengals still found enough offense to win, including Chase’s 45-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
But Chase’s message doesn't have to do with the final score, as Cincinnati’s stars agree that cleaning up controllable mistakes needs to be a priority coming out of the break.
