‘Thought This Was Going To Be Tyreek Hill,’ ‘What a Joke’ -- NFL Fans React As Chiefs Reunite With 3-Time Super Bowl Champion WR

The Kansas City Chiefs had a nice week off and made a move to bolster their receiving room. They are looking to build off of their 4-0 start to the 2026 season and will need some offensive help after the brutal injury to Tyquan Thornton. The Chiefs signed three-time Super Bowl champion Justin Watson to their practice squad.

He’s a familiar face in Kansas City, winning two Super Bowls with the Chiefs, but not the familiar face some were expecting.

NFL Fans React to Chiefs Bringing Back Justin Watson

The Chiefs needed help at receiver and decided to go with someone who knows the system in Kansas City.

Fans thought the help they would get would be someone better than Watson, who most recently played just three games for the Texans in 2025. Tyreek Hill is a free agent, and Chiefs fans were hoping he’d be the big addition to the receiver room; instead, it’s just Watson to the practice squad.

“Thought this was going to be Tyreek Hill,” said Pick The Odds on X.

“That’s not Cheetah…,” added one fan.

Hill is coming off a horrible season-ending leg injury in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season. He has been working to make a comeback, reportedly around November.

The star wideout is still waiting to sign with a contender, so a reunion with the Chiefs made a lot of sense. It’s not out of the question, and this likely won’t take the Chiefs out of the race for Hill, but it keeps the fans waiting for that potential reunion notification.

“And y’all thought we were getting Tyreek,”said one Chiefs fan.

One Steelers fan hopes this might bring Hill to Pittsburgh because the Chiefs didn’t sign him.

“Wow, so Tyreek is gonna go to Pittsburgh now,”said a Steelers fan.

Hill hasn’t been the elite receiver he was in his final years with the Chiefs and in his early years with the Dolphins. He was the top-ranked receiver in PFN’s WR Impact Metric in 2023, but followed that up with a 33rd-ranked finish in 2024 and a tough 2025 headlined by his season-ending injury.

But that isn’t stopping Chiefs fans from hoping for Hill’s return and a resurgence to his elite form. They were annoyed with their front office for bringing Watson back and not just getting Hill into the building already.

“What a joke,” added one fan.

“I hate this damn front office,” said another Chiefs fan.

The Chiefs’ offense is going to need Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy to step up in the passing game. Kenneth Walker III has been awesome for the run game, but the pass attack needs its weapons to show out to help Mahomes.

They are off to a great 4-0 start, but they’ll need their important receiving threats to step up if they want to truly separate themselves in the AFC as the favorite to make the Super Bowl.
