Former Texas A&M forward Rashaun Agee remains in the mix for an opportunity with the Cleveland Cavaliers after surviving the team’s initial roster cuts.

Cleveland signed Agee to an Exhibit 10 contract on Sept. 23 after he played for the organization during the NBA Summer League. The deal is not guaranteed, but it allowed Agee to participate in training camp and compete for a place within the organization.

The Cavaliers have already started reducing their roster. Curtis Jones and Kadary Richmond were waived Oct. 9, while Jaxson Robinson was released Oct. 14. Agee remains under contract as Cleveland prepares for its regular-season opener against Philadelphia on Oct. 22.

Agee only appeared in one of Cleveland’s three preseason games, but he made the most of his limited opportunity. The former Aggie scored six points and grabbed two rebounds in 11 minutes against Boston. He made one of his three field-goal attempts, connected from beyond the arc and went 3-for-4 at the free-throw line.

Making Cleveland’s regular-season roster will be difficult. The Cavaliers already have all three of their two-way positions filled, and Agee is competing against a roster that includes several established frontcourt players.

However, earning an NBA roster spot is not his only path forward. Cleveland could waive Agee and bring him into the organization through the Cleveland Charge. His Exhibit 10 contract allows him to receive a bonus if he spends at least 60 days with the Cavaliers’ G League affiliate.

Agee averaged 14.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists during his only season at Texas A&M. He started 33 games and helped the Aggies reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Agee has survived Cleveland’s first round of cuts, but his status remains worth monitoring as the Cavaliers finalize their roster.
