The 13-year veteran, in his first year for the 49ers after 12 incredible seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been outstanding through San Francisco’s first five games. Evans has caught 24 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns and has looked like he hasn’t missed a beat in a new offense.
However, Evans has battled a rib injury since Week 3. Last week, Evans added another injury, a sore Achilles, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
He did not practice all week. With the game on Monday, injured players got an extra day of rest, but Evans still didn’t practice on Saturday. He did conditioning work on the side. Shanahan listed Evans as questionable for Monday’s game against the Commanders.
“We’ll know on Monday, I think,” Shanahan said of Evans.
Considering Evans’ veteran status, it would be a surprise if he didn’t suit up against Washington. He missed some practice time earlier this season but hasn’t missed a game.
While Evans’ status is questionable until Monday’s game, the 49ers’ offense could get some important veterans back. 10-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk is expected to return on Monday after missing last week’s game with a knee sprain and bone bruise.
The 49ers could also get wide receiver Christian Kirk back for Monday night. The nine-year veteran signed a one-year deal with the 49ers in the offseason, and he has yet to make his San Francisco debut. Kirk has been out with a calf injury since the start of training camp. Shanahan said Kirk could be activated in time for Monday night's game.
