The 2025 Denver Broncos were one game away from making the Super Bowl with Bo Nix under center, but he suffered a brutally unlucky ankle injury in the AFC Divisional Round and missed the AFC Championship Game.

But Nix was back and good to go for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. With a still-strong offense that added Jaylen Waddle and an elite defense, it seemed like the sky was the limit for the 2026 Broncos. But through six weeks, it's been far from ideal.
Unfortunately, the biggest area of concern is with Nix. Once thought to be the future of the QB position in Denver, as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler highlights, the Broncos now have a very real question to answer about Nix's future in Denver amid his struggles this season.
Broncos have a real Bo Nix question to answer this offseason
"Denver is good enough to keep winning despite Nix showing a limited ceiling," Fowler writes. "He is a quality starter but is not poised to enter the upper echelon. Confidence appears to be an issue this season, raising questions about what this player-term marriage looks like long term."
Nix isn't playing well for the Broncos right now, and there are some real questions about whether he should be the QB of the future in Denver.
While the offensive environment is certainly not ideal, he does have a solid supporting cast with Waddle, Courtland Sutton, and a great offensive line that should be good enough to give Nix a chance to thrive.

Instead, he's struggling right now, with his lack of any downfield offensive game being a major concern, especially after a rough game on Thursday Night Football.
But one of the more concerning facets of Nix's game so far is his lack of rushing ability. He's not nearly as effective on the ground as he was before, and that combined with sub-par passing numbers, doesn't bode well for his future in Denver.
While the Broncos have found a lot of success as a team with Nix at quarterback, he's not doing nearly enough right now to justify Denver spending $50-plus million per-year on him.
So, what will the Broncos do with Nix in the future? Once seen as a no-brainer decision to give him an extension, Nix's 2026 struggles have drastically changed his outlook, with a future in Denver no longer guaranteed.
