While defensive coverage headlines typically dominate the chatter around Jalen Ramsey, his deployment as a lethal edge blitzer delivered a masterclass performance in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ overtime victory over Tampa Bay. Ramsey recorded bookend sacks, dropping the quarterback on the opening drive and sealing the game in overtime, proving to be the catalyst for Pittsburgh's front seven.

During an appearance on “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward,” defensive veteran Cameron Heyward provided a high-level technical breakdown of Ramsey’s rare instinct and precision off the edge.
"Well, I don't know how many guys have done this, but in a game to get a sack on the first drive and the last drive is pretty special," Heyward noted. "And Jalen times his blitzes up better than anybody. He explodes into the backfield. He's able to just time it up perfectly."
Rather than lining up directly on the line of scrimmage, Ramsey frequently disguises his rush from depth. This allows the front seven to manipulate blocking schemes and the offensive line's eyes. On the game-winning play in overtime, Pittsburgh showed a heavy front that forced Tampa Bay's protection to slide away from Ramsey, granting him a clear runway to close out the game.
"On the last play in particular, we had a lot of guys at the line and it requires a lot of detail," Heyward explained. "Not only Jalen, but T.J. [Watt], myself, Nick [Herbig], Pat [Queen], to take the eyes of the offensive lineman, and then it allows Jalen to just get a free shot, and Jalen made him pay. The execution on that last play was flawless."
By pairing pre-snap manipulation with Ramsey’s elite closing speed, Pittsburgh has unlocked a game-altering pressure package. Ramsey’s ability to time up his rushes and deliver high-impact plays in critical moments gives the Steelers a dynamic pass-rushing threat off the edge.
