‘Let Russ Cook,’ ‘No Reason For The Jets To Do This’ — Russell Wilson Pushes Chiefs To Swing Blockbuster Trade, But Fans Have a Few Things to Say

The Kansas City Chiefs boast an undefeated 5-0 record so far this season. With expectations that the team could make another serious run at the Super Bowl, speculation is increasing over whether the front office will make a major move to strengthen its roster.

Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson has a specific target in mind, suggesting that Kansas City should pursue one of the New York Jets’ wide receivers. His take sparked debate over both the potential benefits for Kansas City and the likelihood that New York would agree to such a deal.

Russell Wilson’s Chiefs-Jets Trade Proposal Sparks Debate

The November 10 trade deadline is drawing closer, and the NFL fans are waiting to witness some blockbuster trades.

While sitting down with Kyle Long on “NFL on CBS,” Russell proposed a surprising trade, which involved the Jets sending wide receiver Garrett Wilson to the Chiefs. While trading Garrett might seem unlikely, Russell made a case for the move.

“If I’m the Kansas City Chiefs, I got the All-Star running back in the backfield in Kenneth Walker, which we’ve never had before,” Russell said. “And guess what that does? That play action opens up. What (Patrick) Mahomes does arguably better than anybody in the world is throw the ball down the field.

“If I’m thinking about this, who would I go get? I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson. If the Jets keep losing, I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson from the New York Jets because I believe that Garrett Wilson, down the field, with his ability- he’s a smart guy; he learns quickly- he’d be great in the Andy Reid style of offense.”

Russell also pointed out that the Chiefs have not had a receiver with Garrett’s skill set.

Many from the NFL community supported Russell’s proposal.

“Let Russ cook,” former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel said.

“Would,” Brad Henson Production, who covers the Chiefs, wrote on X.

“Won’t ever happen, but this is THE move; it’s not a ‘swing’ cause you know the level GW (Wilson) is at currently and can ascend to,” one fan said. “Eliminates day 1 WR from the draft plans (and/or a big money FA) I’d call and at least gauge the market on him cause despite the early szn success we know what the Jets are and so do they.”

Garrett had a relatively quiet outing in the Jets’ loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, recording four receptions on six targets for 44 yards.

However, since entering the NFL, Garrett has established himself as New York’s primary receiving option. He currently holds an 82.8 grade in the PFN WR Impact Rankings, placing him at No. 12.

Garrett’s role has led some fans to question why New York would consider trading away its top receiver.

“There is no reason for the Jets to do this. Like none. It’d have to be because Wilson wants out, and he just signed an extension there. Sauce (Gardner) was one thing, but having a true #1 WR for whatever QB you draft is way more important than an elite CB,” another fan said.

“I mean this isn’t realistic at all but would be easily bust open the window for the second part of our dynasty if it did happen,” a fan added.

One more fan rejected the idea, writing, “Jets aren’t trading him; they already have a lot of draft capital.”

Garrett’s contract situation also complicates the proposed move, as he agreed to a four-year, $130 million extension with New York last year. The deal made NFL history at the time, as he became the first receiver to secure an average annual salary exceeding $31 million after just three seasons in the league, which proved his worth to the team.

Unless New York receives an offer it considers worthwhile or Garrett expresses a desire to leave, Kansas City’s pursuit of him will remain a speculative possibility rather than an upcoming move.
