Victor Wembanyama had a horrible performance during the San Antonio Spurs' opening night game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Considering the Spurs are seen as one of the favorites to win the 2026-27 NBA championship, it was a bad night for him and for how people see his overall game.

It is normal to struggle, but it seems Wembanyama can hit the wall quite often on offense. He is perennially impactful when it comes to his defensive work, as he swatted away six shots against the Thunder and he grabbed 13 rebounds. However, the Spurs need to be as good on offense to help them win games.

Victor Wembanyama acknowledges the biggest problems he's having on offense

Wembanyama is one of the biggest matchup nightmares in NBA history. Standing at 7'5", Wembanyama is taller than most NBA players, but he also has the skill set that people often see from guards and forwards. He can shoot from the perimeter, and he can dribble the ball fairly well.

Unfortunately, that has not been enough to cement him as one of the best offensive players in the game. It has certainly made him the best defensive player in the NBA, but offensively, he still has a lot to work on to become as effective as he can be.

In the loss to the Thunder, Wembanyama scored 12 points, with 10 of those coming from the free-throw line. He only made one field goal out of 13 attempts, which is pretty unforgivable coming from such an established superstar like him.

Thankfully for Spurs fans, Wembanyama is taking accountability for his offensive performances. He thinks he knows the root of the problem and how he can get past it moving forward.

"I need to go back to playing the basketball I like. This is not the sport I like, right here. I've got no reason to be hesitant. It's as simple as that. I'm good when I have fun. I was indecisive. I might be overthinking it," Wembanyama said after the loss to OKC.

As long as he can keep learning from his blunders, Wembanyama could lead the Spurs to the promised land. However, he should know that he must resolve the issues quickly because if he struggles for an extended period, the Spurs could be in trouble without his contributions to the offense.
