49ers announce final decision on Mike Evans for Week 7

· Yahoo Sports

San Francisco 49ers Mike Evans is dealing with an Achilles injury that could affect the San Francisco 49ers’ passing game as they prepare for their matchup NFL against the Atlanta Falcons. The veteran receiver aggravated the issue during Monday night’s 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders and left the game in the second quarter.

Evans finished with three receptions for 94 yards, leading San Francisco in receiving despite leaving early. His injury is another concern for a team already missing several receivers, including Deebo Samuel, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

The 49ers have ruled Evans out for Sunday’s matchup with the Falcons, while Samuel will also miss the game with his hamstring injury, per head coach Kyle Shanahan. Evans has dealt with Achilles tendinitis before, and head coach Kyle Shanahan said after Monday’s game that he hoped the issue would not keep the receiver out for long.

Evans has recorded 27 receptions for 420 yards and three touchdowns this season.

San Francisco’s receiver depth is particularly thin, with Ricky Pearsall out for the season, De’Zhaun Stribling on injured reserve after ankle surgery and Demarcus Robinson sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Jacob Cowing and Brandin Cooks could see more opportunities, while George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey are likely to remain important targets for Purdy.

Christian Kirk active as 49ers need receiving help

Christian Kirk is available after returning to full participation in practice while recovering from a calf injury. The receiver has yet to make his regular-season debut for San Francisco, so Sunday’s game could offer his first opportunity to contribute to the offense.

Kirk’s return comes at a useful time for the 49ers, who have been short of healthy options at receiver. His role will depend on how quickly he settles into the offense, but his availability gives Purdy another target with Evans and Samuel sidelined.

San Francisco visits Atlanta on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Fox. The 49ers will look to their available offensive weapons to maintain their unbeaten start before entering their Week 8 bye.
