Playing days

Yorke joined the club in 1998 from Aston Villa and made an instant impact, winning the treble in his first season as well as being the top scorer in the team.

The Trinidad and Tobago striker spent four seasons at the club, scoring 65 goals in 152 appearances.

He would later play for Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Sunderland before retirement.

Managerial record

The former striker managed Australian side Macarthur FC in the 2022-2023 season but only lasted 19 matches.

He was then appointed head coach of his nation, Trinidad and Tobago, in 2024.

Yorke left his role as head coach in February this year.

The former striker was linked to a move to South African side Kaizer Chiefs in June, but nothing came of the links.

Yorke also confirmed his interest in the role of Ghana head coach at the start of this month.

Ghana interest

According to The Guardian, the interest appears to be mutual.

The article reports that, “Yorke is among the names under consideration, along with Pape Thiaw, Aliou Cissé and Walid Regragui, the former Morocco head coach, according to Ghanaian media.”

Nonetheless, it must be confirmed that “the Ghanaian FA has not confirmed any approach”.

Former Manchester United assistant Carlos Queiroz left his role after his side found themselves bottom of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group with no points, after a 2-0 defeat in Côte d’Ivoire and a 4-2 home loss against the Gambia.

This is quite the turnaround for a side who drew with England in the World Cup and reached the last 32 of the competition, narrowly losing 0-1 to Colombia.

Commenting on the interest to The Guardian, Yorke claimed, “it’s a job I’d be interested in, given Ghana’s history and the players available.”
