Green Bay Packers sign wide receiver to 53-man roster prior to Week Seven showdown with Detroit Lions

· Yahoo Sports

The Green Bay Packers cannot seem to buy a break when it comes to losing players to injuries. As reported earlier today, linebacker Zaire Franklin is going to miss Green Bay’s game in Week Seven against the Detroit Lions. He sustained a shin injury in practice after colliding with a teammate.

On the bright side, he is not expected to miss any extended time and will not be put on injured reserve. In reality, it is the biggest break the Packers have gotten on the injury front this year. Multiple players on both sides of the ball have been lost for the remainder of year with season-ending injuries, including wide receiver Jayden Reed.

Additionally, wide receiver Skyy Moore will be out for the next several weeks with an ankle sprain.

When Reed went down with his season-ending neck injury, the Packers picked up wide receiver Coleman Owen off of the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad. They elevated him for their game against Dallas, and he had one kick-off return for 16 yards.

Now that Moore is on injured reserve and out for the next several weeks, Green Bay made the decision to sign Owen to their 53-man roster:

Owen will most likely be utilized mostly on special teams. With Savion Williams back and the emergence of J. Michael Sturdivant as a viable receiving threat, there are not many targets available for him on offense. However, he can fill in suitably for Moore in the return game.

In 2024, his final college season, Owen played at Ohio and had 78 receptions for 1,245 yards and eight touchdowns.
