Skattebo's injury occurred at the end of a 42-yard run on the game's penultimate play. The 24-year-old was behind the Texans defense but slowed down and slid as he approached field goal range.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Skattebo had been hurt, as he was able to exit the field under his own power. He then took a knee on the sideline and watched as Devin Singletary took the final carry of the game 30 yards to the end zone for a game-winning touchdown.

But after the game, Skattebo acknowledged he was dinged up on his final carry of the game. Here's what to know about his injury and how it could impact the Giants moving forward.

Cam Skattebo injury update

Skattebo told ESPN's Dan Graziano he felt something in his hamstring during his final carry of the game. He knew the team was in field goal range, so he decided to slide to both protect himself and set his team up for an opportunity to win the game.

Skattebo didn't provide Graziano any additional information about his injury, simply saying when discussing it, "Good thing we have a bye week."

Skattebo was not asked about his injured hamstring during his locker room availability after the game, shrouding his status moving forward with mystery.

Giants RB depth chart

The Giants are three-deep at running back after cutting Najee Harris in advance of their Week 7 game. Here's a look at the pecking order of the running backs on their 53-man roster.

  1. Cam Skattebo
  2. Tyrone Tracy Jr.
  3. Devin Singletary

Tracy scored New York's first touchdown against the Texans before exiting with a hamstring injury of his own. He finished the day with 15 yards and the score on six carries.

Singletary handled five carries for 41 yards and also scored on his 30-yard scamper at the end of regulation. Pending the health of Skattebo and Tracy, Singletary could be in for a larger role for the Giants coming out of their bye week.

The Giants also have Phil Mafah and Grant Finley on the practice squad. Either could be called up if New York needs additional depth at the running back position in the coming weeks.
