The Dallas Legends used the top pick in Saturday's G League draft on Sochan, who will look to salvage an NBA career that has not gone as expected for the former lottery selection.

Last February, the Spurs waived Sochan, the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft. Sochan wound up in New York, where he played little but nevertheless earned a championship ring at the Spurs' expense.

After a failed training camp tryout with Portland this fall, the 23-year-old Sochan will next attempt to fight his way back into the NBA via the G League.

His former coach wishes him well in that pursuit.

"In this his league, it's about continuing to get better and find his spots to grow in," Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said. "(The Legends) taking him at that spot means they are heavily invested in him, so good luck to him."
