“Man, we have to wipe it clean, and we have to tackle better, man,” Auburn coach Alex Golesh told the Auburn Sports Network at halftime, trailing 31-10. “That’s (it at) the end of the day.”
Sam Leavitt completed 21 of 27 for 261 yards and three touchdowns for LSU as the Tigers amassed 346 first-half yards.
LSU coach Lane Kiffin, who is 59-0 when leading by 14 points or more as an FBS coach, like what he saw from his team.
“Well, they moved the ball really good,” Kiffin told ABC at halftime. “Sam had the one really bad decision. He lucked out in getting that one back. Really controlled the line of scrimmage really well.”
Auburn pulled within 17-10 after an 11-play, 75-yard drive that Byrum Brown finished with a 1-yard score.
“On defense, we had the one bad series,” Kiffin said.
For Golesh, who watched his team manage just 167 yards in the first half, it is about consistency.
“It’s picking up the first first down,” he said. “We have been efficient at times, then, on second down, we’ve tried to run it, and we haven’t been efficient.
“We have to be efficient and have to chunk some here since we are down.”
