With five laps left, the second Big One of the afternoon broke out toward the front of the field where Joey Logano was running fifth. The three-time Cup Series champ spun into the wall, and his No. 22 Ford flipped almost instantly. He slid down the track on his roof with sparks flying and eventually settled upside down.
Safety officials quickly arrived on the scene as the race was stopped with a red flag. They checked on Logano and worked to turn the car over.
Once it was right side up, Logano climbed out without assistance and put on his officially licensed cap.
"It was very much a 'Talladega Nights,' 'oh no, I'm upside down' moment," Logano said. "But I can't thank the safety team enough ... Just happy to be alive."
Other drivers, including Erik Jones and Riley Herbst, absorbed massive impacts in the wreck.
Herbst was farther back in the pack. He collided with the outside wall and then swerved hard for another tough-to-watch hit to the inside wall. He was helped out of his No. 35 Toyota by safety officials.
Herbst was taken to the infield medical center, where he was evaluated and released.
