Report: Cam Skattebo will resume role as Giants' starting RB

· Yahoo Sports

Cam Skattebo is expected to resume his role as the New York Giants' lead running back on Sunday against the Houston Texans, reports NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

The second-year back recorded zero touches in last week's loss to the New Orleans Saints after logging a heavier workload through the first five games.

Head coach John Harbaugh indicated Friday that Skattebo would carry a bigger load following the limited snaps. Skattebo said he had a good week of practice and acknowledged that the reduced involvement taught him a lesson, one week after his costly overtime fumble in a tie against the Washington Commanders.

He has lost five fumbles in 13 career games.

The Giants released veteran Najee Harris on Tuesday, clearing the way for a return to the original 2026 running back plan. Skattebo is positioned as the primary back, with Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary mixing in situationally.

Skattebo will line up behind J.J. McCarthy, who starts Sunday and is expected to remain the Giants' quarterback beyond the Week 8 bye.

Rapoport also reports that Sunday's game is not a one-week tryout for McCarthy, who was traded from the Minnesota Vikings last month and delivered a strong fourth quarter in the Saints game with 243 passing yards and 26 rushing yards.

Harbaugh described the quarterback plan as day-to-day with no permanent guarantees.
