Kenneth Walker III explains why he didn't shake hands with Seahawks after Chiefs' loss: 'I was frustrated'

· Yahoo Sports

Through five games, Kansas City Chiefs running back Kenneth Walker III had a case for league MVP. Walker was out to a fantastic start to the season, rushing for over 115 yards in four of his first five games with his new team. With his former club next on the schedule, Walker had an opportunity to turn in a statement game, perhaps increasing his MVP buzz.

The Seattle Seahawks weren't going to let that happen. Walker was limited to just 36 rushing yards in the Chiefs' 20-3 loss to the Seahawks. It was easily his most disappointing performance of what has been an otherwise excellent season.

Given the matchup — and his struggles — it was notable, then, when Walker exited the field without shaking hands with any of his former teammates.

Walker did shake hands with one Seahawks staffer, but quickly headed to the locker room after that.

When asked about his actions after the game, Walker said he was "frustrated," which resulted in his decision to not shake hands with his former teammates, per the Kansas City Star.

"S***, we lost," Walker said in explaining his decision. "I was frustrated. That's about it. I [saw] them over there celebrating and s***. That's about it."

Walker was far from the only member of the Chiefs to be exposed against the Seahawks. The entire Chiefs offense struggled during the contest, with Patrick Mahomes passing for just 165 yards. The team's leading receivers were Travis Kelce and Noah Gray, each of whom had just 44 yards.

It was a dominant performance by the Seahawks' defense, which clearly focused on making sure Walker didn't have a big day, per ESPN.

"I ain't going to lie, I did," Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori said of wanting to limit Walker's production. "I definitely did want to hold him under 100 [yards]. I don't really listen to all the media noise, but that was my motivation. I know a lot of dudes on the defense, that was their motivation, too, to stop him under 100 and play lights out on defense. I think we did that."

With the loss behind them, the Chiefs will look to get back on track in Week 8. Doing so could prove difficult, as they have to travel to Colorado to take on a tenacious Denver Broncos defense.

After a sluggish start, that defense is firing on all cylinders lately, holding opponents to under 20 points in three straight games. That should make it an intriguing challenge for the Chiefs, who will be out to prove their Week 7 struggles against the Seahawks were just a fluke.
