Pat McAfee was not happy with the way the University of Utah mocked him, and went off on them during his show.

McAfee was part of the College GameDay crew that travelled to the University of Utah to watch the Utes take on the Houston Cougars.

Prior to the event, the University put out a social media post asking fans their thoughts about McAfee, and many of them mocked his antics.

Fans believe Pat McAfee is taking University of Utah students’ jokes too seriously

Speaking on his show, Pat McAfee expressed his frustration with the University of Utah and how he was treated by the institution while he was hosting College GameDay over the weekend.

While he appreciated the opportunity to engage with the students, McAfee didn’t like the fact that the University’s official social media channel shared a video of students mocking him.

McAfee said: “I’ve really enjoyed this college football season. Did not enjoy University of Utah. Did not enjoy it. You know why I didn’t like it mostly? Right before I go out there, okay, right before I go out there, I see the University of Utah’s Instagram page, okay?…

“They put out a video, can you do an impression of Pat McAfee? And one kid goes, ‘Ah, he’s corny.’ Another kid calls me creepy.

“Hey, you, you’re allowed to do what you— the university puts that out? Like, as I’m about to go out and do an infomercial for the place, and then I’m walking in front of thousands of these people, this is how the university feels about it?

“It’s an uncomfortable feeling… I’m getting a lot of shrapnel from a lot of places. The university is putting this out. That is something I just had never experienced really in my entire life. So it kind of set me off a little bit. It made me feel a little bit weird, I would say. Made me feel a little bit weird.”

Understandably, some fans did not share sympathy for McAfee, as they felt that he was being overly sensitive about some very lighthearted jabs.

One fan who was in attendance at College GameDay told Pat: “Pat, it was a good College GameDay. To clarify, I didn’t say you were corny, and nobody said you were creepy.”

Another fan added: “This is such a pathetic response to him reacting emotionally when he should not have. To double down on it is crazy.”

A third fan who also attended the University of Utah said: “It really was just that video? That’s wild. I thought some other s*** happened for sure. The video was pretty light-hearted. Can’t believe Pat is roasting my school over something so soft.”

A fourth fan did not hold back on McAfee at all: “A kid said he didn’t want to see you shirtless and another called you corny… Where is the deep-rooted hatred? He’s soft as Charmin.”

A fifth fan added to these comments: “Soft as Charmin. Imagine making millions acting like a frat boy and having a problem with an IG post.”

And lastly, one final fan suggested McAfee’s success has not made him better equipped to handle criticism: “Bro is more famous than ever and yet is a top-tier loser now.”

In response to McAfee’s comments, ESPN and the University of Utah both put out statements, with the University apologising for the social media post and deleting it from their social media accounts.
