The Ohio High School Athletic Association has removed Cleveland Glenville from the 2026 football playoffs, the organization announced in an email late Thursday, Oct. 29.
The Tarblooders' removal from the Division III, Region 9 postseason came as part of an ongoing investigation into Cleveland Metropolitan School District and inaccurately assigning student participation opportunities to Glenville.

It all stems from students at Ginn Academy, which is a non-member magnet school that does not offer sports and is under the control of Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Student-athletes from Ginn Academy are only allowed to participate at the Cleveland school district closest to their residence.
What happens in Division III with Glenville football out of the playoffs
Glenville's removal knocks out the Tarblooders, who were the No. 12 seed, and pushes No. 12 Hunting Valley University School (6-4) to a Week 12 game against No. 3 Garfield Heights (8-2).
“Recently we discovered several irregularities with students going to Ginn Academy and playing football at Glenville, which led us to conduct an audit of the participation opportunities for all fall sports student-athletes at Glenville High School,” OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said in the email. “This week we confirmed that many players on Glenville’s football team should have been playing at other schools this season. It will take some time to examine all the information and determine the extent of the violations this season and potentially in previous seasons for all schools and teams within Cleveland Metro.”
It's the second time Glenville has been removed from the football playoffs for the same infractions.
In October 2018, the Tarblooders were removed and incurred $5,000 fine. They were placed on probation through 2021.
Glenville won the Division IV football state championship in 2022, 2023 and 2025 and entered the 2026 playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the Division III, Region 9 playoffs.
There is not an exact timetable on the full scope of the investigation and additional penalties, according to the email.
