With these awards in hand, PCA is poised to take home the National League MVP trophy this year after a sensational season, while Ohtani battled injuries in the second half.

Ohtani was the unanimous MVP pick before the season, as he was expected to pitch and hit again and showcase his two-way magic.

What could have been for Ohtani

Through June, Ohtani was well on his way to putting together one of the greatest seasons ever.

He posted a 1.79 ERA in 85.2 innings, with 95 strikeouts and 26 walks.

He also crushed home runs and delivered elite offense. Ohtani was a sight to behold every week, often delivering magical hitting and pitching moments, sometimes on the same night.

However, he made his last start on July 3rd after right bicep and left knee injuries began to develop. He didn’t pitch again for the rest of the season and spent time on the injured list because his swing was so compromised.

Meanwhile, Pete Crow-Armstrong was putting together a great season as a defender and hitter. He hit .280/.372/. 570, hit 45 home runs, stole 41 bases, and played the league’s best center field defense.

Crow-Armstrong had a rough first month, but things picked up fast, and they didn’t relent after that.

His complete season was far better than Ohtani’s rollercoaster ride, earning him season-long awards.

Heading into 2027, Ohtani’s lack of recognition for his efforts this season could motivate him to come back even better.
