Tensions will be high in the Lone Star State on Saturday as No. 13 Texas Tech welcomes No. 22 Arizona in what could end up as a shootout. Both teams are 3-1 in the conference (6-1 overall) and will each harbor high hopes of challenging frontrunner Utah for the Big 12 title before the year is through.

The Red Raiders return to Galaxy Stadium this weekend hoping to extend an undefeated home streak that dates back to a November 2023 loss against rival Texas. And it just so happens head coach Joey McGuire’s side overcame Arizona State in its most recent home outing a fortnight ago as it looks to complete the double this weekend.

Last week’s 37-24 loss at Cincinnati put a real spanner in the works for Texas Tech as it lost touch with Utah and left four teams tied on 3-1 records in the Big 12. Needless to say, they can not afford another slip-up if it has genuine intentions to take the conference crown.

Third-year Wildcats head coach Brent Brennan has touched on Texas Tech’s strength in the ground game but has said Arizona needs to be at its best across the board if it’s to beat Texas Tech on its own turf for the first time since 1935. The Red Raiders’ run-and-shoot offense is summed up by the fact that quarterback Will Hammons is averaging less than one passing touchdown per game this season and failed to connect on a scoring throw for the first time in last week’s loss to Cincy.
