Pro Bowl WR Leads Steelers Inactives vs. Browns

PITTSBURGH — Before Sunday afternoon’s rivalry matchup with the Cleveland Browns, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced their inactives, a group that includes receiver Ben Skowronek (calf).

Skowronek was a limited participant in the Steelers’ Wednesday, Thursday and Friday practices. He was listed as questionable for the clash, but will have to wait another week to be reinserted in a fluid receiver room.
Skowronek was selected to last year’s Pro Bowl as a special teamer.
The Steelers elevated Brandon Johnson to the active roster on Saturday, the third and final time that he can be brought up from the practice squad this season. Mike McCarthy’s team is still without Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) and Roman Wilson (hand), who are still on injured reserve.
Cornerbacks Brandin Echols and Doneiko Slaughter, both dealing with hamstring issues, are also out, joining rookies Drew Allar and Eli Heidenreich. As he has for every other game this season, Will Howard will serve as McCarthy’s emergency third quarterback.
Heidenreich, a Mt. Lebanon product and seventh-round pick in April’s 2026 NFL Draft, has taken a backseat to Lew Nichols in the running back room. Heidenreich hasn’t played since the Steelers’ Week 2 loss on the road against the New England Patriots. Jaylen Warren has obviously been the team’s top ballcarrier, with Rico Dowdle also back in the fold.
