Washington Commanders vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Week 8 staff picks and predictions

· Yahoo Sports

The Washington Commanders (1-4-1) look for their second win of the season on Sunday, when their bitter NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, come to Northwest Stadium. It’s a rematch from Week 1, which the Eagles won 24-22.

The Commanders are coming off a much-needed bye week but still suffered yet another devastating injury. During Friday's practice, defensive tackle Daron Payne fractured his foot and will miss the rest of the season. Payne's injury came only 11 days after star wide receiver Terry McLaurin tore his patellar tendon.

The Eagles are dealing with their own injury problems. They’ve lost five straight, and a loss tonight would put the two-time defending NFC East champions behind Washington in the division standings.

Who wins?

It's time our Week 8 staff predictions.

Bryan Manning

Washington cornerback Amik Robertson made a bold prediction last week. He predicted that the Commanders will beat the Eagles. You can bet Philadelphia played that clip in its locker room. The truth is, Washington should win. Philly, despite its track record, wasn’t good before all the injuries hit this season. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was struggling before he was sadly ruled out for the season with blood clots. Now, the Eagles will be without their top two receivers on Sunday, and star wide receiver Saquon Barkley is banged up. Of course, Washington has its own issues.

The difference here is Jayden Daniels. The Eagles' defense will keep this game close until the fourth quarter, when Daniels helps the Commanders pull away. Daniels will have a big game on Sunday night.

Commanders 27, Eagles 13

No pick this week.

The Commanders have an opportunity to build momentum with a win this week. The Eagles are majorly banged up and will be missing some key players, while Washington is coming off their bye week rested and ready to go. Nothing is ever easy in this league though, so they'll still have to work for it, but the Commanders get the win.

Commanders 24, Eagles 17

The Philadelphia Eagles have not looked terrible with Tanner McKee in at quarterback, but it has not been great. They are still without DeVonta Smith and their offensive line is a shell of what it was at the beginning of the season. For Washington, they are dealing with their own injury issues between Terry McLaurin, Jacory Croskey-Merritt and Daron Payne all being on IR. But the Commanders have the talent at receiver to make up for McLaurin's loss, at least in this game. Also, expect Sonny Styles to have another strong performance and get Washington their second win of the season.
