Rashid, who was left out of the final three matches of last month’s tour of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, took four for 35 to help his side ultimately cruise to a 92-run win.

The 38-year-old was supported by three wickets from Jofra Archer and gave the selectors something to ponder ahead of next week’s one-day opener in Burswood.

England skipper Harry Brook won the toss and opted to bat on a fast and bouncy pitch but his side looked anything but secure at the crease.

Opener Ben Duckett was the star of an otherwise sloppy display with a top-scoring 49, while Liam Dawson also made an unbeaten 44.

Otherwise England failed to impress and proved easy pickings for Lance Morris, returning after a serious back injury, who took three for 29 as England were bowled out for an unimpressive 251.

The hosts made a good start as they reached 60 for one before the wickets started to fall. Rashid tore through the middle order and took the wickets of Jayden Goodwin and Ashton Turner in successive deliveries.

Archer duly stepped up to polish off the back and bowl out the hosts for 159 to secure what looked on paper at least to be a convincing win.
