Notre Dame lands two big 2028 commitments before Miami game starts

· Yahoo Sports

As with any big game, there will be plenty of recruits on campus and Notre Dame took full advantage of that during Miami weekend.

Even before kickoff the fruits of their recruiting labor paid off, as 2028 edge Asa Burch made his verbal pledge to the Irish. The Ohio native is one of the best edge rushers in the country, as the No. 85 overall player in the 247Sports composite. At 6-foot, 5-inches and 225-pounds, Burch has elite size and length, exactly that Notre Dame is looking for in a pass rusher. The battle was won over two rival teams in Michigan and Penn State.

That’s wasn’t the end of the festivities with 2028 running back Zaiden Jernigan committing before shortly after. The 5-foot, 11-inch and 195-pound Missouri native picked the Irish over Ole Miss, Florida and Indiana. Jernigan is one of the best prospects in the country, ranking as the No. 76 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite.

Notre Dame now has five total commits in its 2028 class, one that has the look of another top group heading to South Bend. Head coach Marcus Freeman has shown to be an elite recruiter, and that doesn’t look like it’s stopping anytime soon.
