Even though the summer transfer window still a few months away, Real Madrid have already identified the areas that need to be strengthened before next season.
A new centre-back is at the top of the agenda, given the injury problems in the squad season, and the potential departures of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.

To that end, Real Madrid have identified several players as potential targets, one of whom happens to be Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck.
€40 million for Schlotterbeck?
Now, according to German publication BILD, Schlotterbeck is expected to command a transfer fee of around €40 million, given his current contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until 2027.
The 26-year-old German international has so far shown no indication of wanting to sign a new contract with the Black and Yellows despite their best efforts.

Indeed, Dortmund have tabled a contract offer with an annual salary of around €14 million for Schlotterbeck.
In addition, they are willing to embed a release clause in the deal, providing him an escape route if he wishes to move on in the future.
A new meeting is set to take place between Schlotterbeck’s camp and Dortmund soon in order to discuss the contract as the Bundesliga club push to retain him at the club.
The outlet further states that the chances of the defender signing a new deal have increased of late as Real Madrid have reportedly made Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate their No. 1 target for the summer.
However, reports in Spain suggest that Schlotterbeck is attracted to the idea of playing for Real Madrid and will not make any decision over his future in a hurry.
