An unbelievable season in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich ended with a thumping victory over FC Köln. Vincent Kompany could not have asked for a better finish to his second season in the German top flight as the Bayern boss. This game was one sided and saw contributions from across the board from the Rekordmeister. Here are the match awards:

Jersey Swap — Said El Mala

In the first half Bayern were too strong for the visitors. El Mala, however, stood out amongst his teammates. His pressing was what resulted in the turnover of possession. What followed was pure attacking skill. His powerful run towards the Bayern goal could not be stopped by Bayern’s defenders . El Mala topped it all off with a sizzling finish that beat Manuel Neuer fair and square. No wonder the German has been linked to Bayern through the season.

Der Kaiser — Tom Bischof

The 20 year-old was back at left-back, his most played position this season. Although not his preferred position, Bischof put in a solid shift in both defense and attack. Winning seven of eight duels contested, Bischof displayed how well he has adapted to his role at LB. While a vital contribution in the back, Bischof’s four tackles and two interceptions will be overshadowed by his thundering goal from outside the box. The kid has proven how skillful he is and deserves a spot in the midfield next season.

Fußballgott — Joshua Kimmich

The most frequent winner of this award comes back to claim it once again for the last Bundesliga game of the season. Picking up two assists, he was vital in keeping the pace of his team always ahead of the opposition. Despite the team spending the majority of the time in Köln’s half, Kimmich’s passing precision was clinical with 92 percent accuracy.

Der Bomber — Lennart Karl

The youngster had a dream debut season. Against Köln he had a decent 0.54 expected assists. However, Karl being Karl, converted the half chance into an assist. He missed getting himself on the scoresheet by the narrowest of margins. His grounded shot curled past Köln goalkeeper but was unfortunately kept out by the post. Karl’s injury put a dent in his great run. But, post his recovery, the 18 year-old has picked up right where he left off.

Meister of the Match — Harry Kane

The Bayern number 9 was the chief perpetrator in the record breaking 122 goals scored by the club this season. “Hattrick” Harry lived up to his nickname as he picked up another hattrick on the final matchday of the Bundesliga. The striker’s tally went up to 36, a phenomenal mark averaging 1.16 goals every game. The perfect word to sum up Kane today would be “inevitable”. Scoring three goals from four shots, Kane made a mockery of his individual xG stat of 0.63.

There was a moment around the 35th minute where Kane tracked all the way back to jostle the ball back from a Köln player. The dedication to do that when the team has won the league long back and holding a 2-goal lead in the game is just incredible. And all this when Kane is a striker is just astounding. This has been a repeating feature of the England captain as his all-round contribution has been vital to Bayern Munich’s success.

Honorable Mentions:

Leon Goretzka

The time has come to part ways for Bayern and Leon Goretzka. Eight fruitful years that saw an incredible bond between Goretzka and the club, its fans and the Mia San Mia philosophy have come to an end. A memorable treble, powerful presence on the pitch to a strong stand for club values with the Rot Gegen Rassimus campaign.

Jonathan Tah

The decision to bring Tah to Bayern and the performances from him have been equally surprising. The German centre back proved his mettle with another strong performance. Although the team failed to keep a clean sheet, Tah made crucial interventions to prevent the rare Köln chances from turning into goals.

Luis Díaz

The Colombian was a mercurial force on the pitch. His through ball to Michael Olise deserved a much better finish from the Frenchman. Nonetheless, Díaz got himself into dangerous positions often. If only he could up his conversion rate, he could be the best winger on the planet.
