General manager Darren Mougey continues to prove he's not afraid of swinging a deal.
In fact, Mougey might arguably be the most aggressive GM in the entire NFL. The Charles trade marked his 13th trade dating back to last August. Mougey is averaging more than one trade per month!
Mougey acquired defensive tackles Harrison Phillips and Jowon Briggs last year, who remain with the team after playing big roles in 2025. Mougey also brought over Jarvis Brownlee from the Tennessee Titans, and traded Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner at the deadline.
This offseason has welcomed plenty of additional activity. In addition to the Charles deal, Mougey traded Jermaine Johnson II to the Titans for T'Vondre Sweat. He acquired Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins. Mougey also traded both 2025 quarterbacks, Geno Smith and Justin Fields.
Mougey's aggressiveness has both acquired valuable assets and gotten rid of devalued ones. The Jets are also positioned with three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL draft due to his willingness to get creative. Mougey will continue exploring all opportunities to improve the rebuilding Jets.
