Chad Epperson is the Boston Red Sox interim third base coach, and there's a chance he doesn't keep the gig for very long.

That's because on Wednesday night, he found a way to do something that a third base coach very much isn't allowed to do.

On a ball into the left field corner at Fenway Park, Epperson decided he needed a better view of what was happening.

So instead of staying in foul territory, in or near his coaching box, he instead hopped into the field of play. He waved the runner home while standing on the infield grass.

It's even wilder when you actually see it:

To be clear: He can't do that.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz told reporters after the game that he was told by the umpiring crew that if it happened again, Epperson would be ejected.

The coaching box exists for a reason. It's meant to keep the base coaches in a consistent position that is also generally out of the way of the action between the lines.

Epperson put himself in direct position to potentially interfere in that moment. You can understand why his brain brought him there, but it obviously isn't something he should've done.

And after every other base coach in the league sees this, you can bet they'll be extra careful about where they're putting their feet from now on.
