Florentino Perez confirms signing of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate – “He will not be the only one”

It has been a very busy week in the Real Madrid offices, but not only because of Sunday’s presidential election between Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme. Work is being done on making the necessary additions to the first team squad, which is as yet without a manager.

However, that matter will be settled in the days after the election result is known. If Perez is re-elected, he will announce the return of Jose Mourinho, who would make his way back to the Bernabeu for the first time in 13 years, and the 79-year-old has also orchestrated the signing of at least one new central defender.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Ibrahima Konate when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of the month, and Perez confirmed this news when he gave an interview to Diario AS.

“We are working on all these additions. I can assure you that if I continue to be president of Real Madrid, one of the great defenders in the world such as Konaté, will play for Real Madrid from next season. And he will not be the only one of the great defenders who will also arrive if I continue to lead Real Madrid.”

Perez also confirmed that a decision on whether Nico Paz is brought back to Real Madrid now will be made by the club’s next manager, which would be Mourinho in the event that his presidency, which started in 2009, extends.

“Nico Paz is one of those great players who have been trained in our youth academy and who today is one of the players for whom great European clubs fight. He has had a great season with Como in Italy and we have, as you know, the possibility of incorporating him this year. We will decide with the coach and with the coaching staff.”
