Patriots fans probably should expect New England to trade Kayshon Boutte at some point this summer. But they shouldn't expect a handsome return for the fourth-year receiver.

Trade rumors have surrounded Boutte since the start of the offseason and have picked up since the Patriots acquired A.J. Brown. Boutte this week said he wants to stay in New England, but several reports indicate he wants to be traded.

In a piece published Tuesday, Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal offered insight into what New England likely would get back in a trade involving Boutte -- and it isn't much.

"(Boutte) has also made it clear to the team he wouldn’t mind being traded," Giardi wrote. "The Pats tried -- and failed -- to make that happen around the NFL draft. Is there a market for him now? League sources believe the best the organization can do is a day-three pick (Rounds 4-7).  And maybe even a later one at that. Obviously, all things equal, Boutte could probably find more opportunities -- and targets -- elsewhere. And that still seems to be the most likely of scenarios. Until then, he’s under contract."

The 24-year-old Boutte skipped all of voluntary offseason training activities (OTAs) but was present this week for mandatory minicamp.

Boutte joined the Patriots as a sixth-round pick in 2023. After an underwhelming rookie season, the LSU product broke out in 2024 with 43 catches for 589 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games. He was equally impressive last season, posting 33 catches for 551 yards and six TDs in 14 games while emerging as Drake Maye's top downfield target
