Report: Jaylen Brown irked by Boston Celtics trade efforts; return still possible

For weeks now, we have had to guess about how star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has felt about the fact his team has been trying to trade him. First for disgruntled Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, then for any return good enough to keep the team from taking a step back next season. Now, quite unsurprisingly, we are hearing for the first time explicitly that the Georgia native is upset about being dangled in trade talks.
According to new reporting from Boston Globe Celtics beat writer Adam Himmelsbach, "the Celtics have continued to field calls from teams interested in trading for Brown" and "Brown has grown frustrated with the organization’s approach following a season in which he guided the Celtics to 56 wins while Jayson Tatum was sidelined for months with an Achilles injury."

As we said above, nothing about this is revelatory from the perspective that such actions by a front office typically produce this result when things do not go as planned, and as well as Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has run the storied ball club since taking on that mantle, there was no reason to expect this would not turn out in a similar manner.
"It remains unclear if the Celtics are urgently attempting to trade Brown or simply listening to pitches from prospective suitors," shares Himmelsbach. "Brown could still return to the Celtics next season, even if some uncomfortable conversations must happen first."
"If the Celtics trade Brown, agreeing to a deal before the start of free agency, it would give them a clearer view of how to supplement their roster," adds the Globe reporter. "But that is not essential."
Given the paucity of offers to take on Brown's contract so far this offseason, and perhaps even of there was a robust market, it seems -- at least for now -- that uncomfortable conversations and the mending of fences might just be in everyone's best interest.
