A 16-year-old boy from Ajax who was prohibited from driving at the time has been charged with a slew of offences after allegedly ramming a police cruiser with a pickup truck.
Durham Regional Police said the incident happened after officers saw a Ford pickup truck driving erratically on June 11 at about 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot near Kingston and Westney Rds. in Ajax.
When officers tried to contain the vehicle during a traffic stop, the driver rammed a cruiser and fled from the scene.
Officers later found the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen, parked in the Bayly St. E.-Burcher Rd. area and took the driver into custody.
The teen was charged with impaired operation, impaired operation (exceed), flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, driving a motor vehicle while suspended, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Armed teen accused of threatening taxi driver
A 15-year-old boy has been accused of threatening a taxi driver in Oshawa while armed with a knife.
Durham Regional Police said the victim approached an officer on Sunday at about 5:40 p.m. in the Bloor St. E.-Ritson Rd. S. area and said they were threatened by a passenger while approaching their destination.
The victim believed the suspect brandished a firearm concealed in his waistband before fleeing from the vehicle.
Police used a drone to locate a suspect, who was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. They said a large knife was found during a search.
A 15-year-old from Oshawa was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and uttering threats.

Elderly woman victim of distraction theft in Mississauga
Cops are appealing for help in identifying two suspects accused of distracting an elderly woman during a theft last month in Mississauga.
Peel Regional Police said the victim was walking on June 26 at about 4:20 p.m. in the Garnetwood Chase-Rathburn Rd. E. area before being approached by an unknown female who was a passenger in a blue, newer-model Kia Sportage.
The female repeatedly asked the victim if she was OK while placing a fake gold chain around her neck. When the victim pushed her away and called for help, a male suspect exited the vehicle and briefly covered her mouth in an apparent attempt to silence her.
The victim’s 18-karat gold necklace and a pendant, valued at about $3,500, were stolen during the scuffle.
Police said the suspects fled in the Kia, which did not have licence plates and was last seen fleeing westbound on Rathburn.
The female suspect is about 40 to 50 years old with a medium build and black hair. She was wearing a colourful headscarf, a long black skirt and spoke Croatian and English during the interaction.
There was no description of the male suspect.
“Investigators are reminding residents to be cautious when approached by strangers offering assistance, gifts or jewelry,” police said in a news release. “Distraction thefts often involve suspects creating a diversion to steal valuable property.”
