Mike Vrabel comments on Christian Gonzalez's contract negotiations

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel discussed the contract negotiations around Christian Gonzalez. He indicated that those contract discussions are ongoing when speaking with media members on Friday.

"Those contract negotiations are ongoing," Vrabel confirmed.
Coincidentally, the Seattle Seahawks are still in contract negotiations with Devon Witherspoon. That has led some to believe that the two contracts could be indirectly intertwined. It's also important to note that Gonzalez and Witherspoon share the same agent.
Regardless, Gonzalez is in line to be one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL thanks to his elite production on the field. The hope is that a resolution happens sooner rather than later for the Patriots.

Vrabel confirmed Gonzalez reported and he expects Gonzalez to participate in practice.
Gonzalez is coming off a Pro Bowl season after earning his first All-Pro nod in 2024.
He appeared in 14 games and racked up 69 tackles and 10 passes defended when quarterbacks threw in his direction. The former Oregon standout also had several key moments in the postseason, including helping to shut down Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba at Super Bowl LX.
The Patriots would be wise to lock him up under contract for the long-term.
