Orlando Pirates announce Thapelo Mokobodi as 9th signing

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Orlando Pirates and linked up with his new teammates on Wednesday. He will wear the number 33 jersey during the upcoming campaign.

Mokobodi becomes the ninth signing of the current transfer window. He follows after Mthetheleli MthiyaneSbangani ZuluMatome MmolaiBohale NgwatoGhampani LunguNeo Rapoo, Sebastian Pedersen and Aphiwe Baliti, who has since returned to Siwelele FC on loan.

THAPELO MOKOBODI EARNS BIG MOVE

Born in Soweto on 11 November 2002, Mokobodi made his name at Marumo Gallants. He became a key figure in midfield and helped the club secure promotion to the Betway Premiership.

His passing range and composed displays attracted interest from several top-flight clubs. Stellenbosch FC secured his signature in August 2025, handing him a long-term contract.

The midfielder made 28 appearances for the Winelands outfit. His work rate and versatility made him an important squad player as the club secured its place in the Betway Premiership.

ORLANDO PIRATES STRENGTHEN MIDFIELD

The Sea Robbers have added another quality option to their midfield ahead of the new season. Mokobodi now joins a squad preparing to challenge for domestic honours and compete on the continental stage.

The former Stellenbosch FC midfielder will hope to make an immediate impact as he begins the next chapter of his career in the famous black and white colours.

As a central midfielder in the number eight postition, he will compete with six players. The list includes Thalente Mbatha, Masindi Nemtajela, Abdoulaye Mariko, Cemran Dansin and Matome Mmolai.
