MMQB – Would You Rather

There’s been a lot of hemming and hawing on how Matt Campbell’s team will look this fall, and I still plant myself firmly in the “offense will be fine, defense is a question mark” camp, but will happily be wrong on the defense.
One unsavory facet of Penn State football from the past few years has been the passing game’s issues. Whether that was due to a bunch of sub-par receivers, Drew Allar not “throwing open” his pass catchers, or the offensive scheme (or some combination of all of the above), the Lions have not had the greatest success through the air.
Yet despite that drawback, the Lions have had a pretty solid run. Yes, last season went off the rails for like 2 straight months, but the team ended with a winning record and a bowl win.
Before that, they had a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance, a Peach Bowl appearance, and a Rose Bowl win.
Pretty good for a team that struggled with the forward pass.
So MMQB asks – would you rather the 2026 Penn State football team return to BCS bowl glory but continue to be ineffective in passing the ball, OR would you rather the team get really good at passing, but “only” finish the year something like 9-3 and miss the playoffs, knowing that the team is building toward a more sustainable future?
Obviously the real answer is get good at passing AND make the playoffs, but by extension, the real answer is for Penn State to never lose another game ever and for them to win every national championship until the heat death of the universe.
So play along – which would you rather?
