Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson recently scoffed at preseason rankings after the NFL placed him at No. 69 on its top 100 list for the upcoming season.
It was quite a drop for Jackson, who missed the playoffs for the second time in his career due to the Ravens’ 8-9 record last season.
The two-time MVP, however, is not bothered by the outside noise. He is fully focused on their training camp and learning the system of coach Jesse Minter. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted that Minter has already been tinkering with “a lot of new things” on the Ravens, including practicing with Jackson under center more.

“A little renewed energy, a little more buy-in from players. Yes, Lamar Jackson under center, which we have heard about, and now have seen. Surely, the hope is you’re gonna run the ball more effectively, more demonstratively than you did last year. Maybe get Lamar Jackson a little more comfortable and feeling better,” said Rapoport.
“The one thing for me that stands out is the buy-in from Lamar is real.”

That should fire up the fans of the Ravens, who have yet to see the team advance to the Super Bowl with Jackson. His failure to make it to the ultimate round has hounded Jackson. But he has not allowed it to chip away at his self-belief.
Rapoport acknowledged that Baltimore needs another playmaker to make the offense better. But he was optimistic that Jackson, who was recently compared to an NBA star, and his targets could get the job done.
Jackson is an elite signal-caller, regardless of his place in preseason rankings. With a new system in place and the trust accorded to him by Minter, the three-time All-Pro could wreak havoc in the upcoming campaign.
