According to Sadar Bazar Police Station in-charge PL Sharma, the accused had been on the run in a case registered in February 2025. He is accused of forcibly entering the house of Javed Khan while carrying a licensed gun and assaulting him.

During the investigation, police found that the firearm had allegedly been obtained using a fake arms licence claimed to have been issued in Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir. After remaining on the run for several months, Anwar Qadri was arrested by police on Thursday.

Sharma further said that the accused has a long criminal record, with 27 criminal cases registered against him at different police stations in the city. These include offences such as assault, rioting, illegal possession of weapons, robbery, murder and attempt to murder. Officials also said that preventive action under the National Security Act (NSA) had previously been taken against him. Police said further investigation into the case is underway and legal proceedings against the accused will continue as per law.

The Banganga Police Station staff also booked him for his alleged involvement in a ‘love jihad’ case last year, when he was the Congress corporator from Ward 58. He was arrested in connection with the same case. Due to his criminal record, he was disqualified by the Divisional Commissioner.
