SMU QB limited in fall camp while battling minor injury

With the start of the 2026 college football season just weeks away, SMU and coach Rhett Lashlee have an injury situation to monitor during fall camp.
According to a report from the Associated Press on Monday, quarterback Kevin Jennings is currently dealing with a jammed finger on his throwing hand. Jennings is expected to be limited in fall camp for the next week or two, though the injury should not threaten his status for the Mustangs' season-opener against Florida State on Sept. 7.

Jennings jammed his finger on a door in the locker room, per the report.
“There’s no issues. It’s just a really bad jam,” Lashlee said Monday. “We actually got a really good report this morning. There’s no long-term effects.”
Jennings has started 26 games over the last two seasons, guiding SMU to the College Football Playoff in 2024. He has thrown for over 7,709 yards with 55 passing touchdowns and 26 interceptions in 39 total appearances, earning Third Team All-ACC honors in 2024.
One of the most experienced starting quarterbacks in college football entering 2026, the Mustangs will hope Jennings can return to full participation sooner rather than later.
