What To Expect for Everton

Everton are in multiple conversations for incoming players, looking to bolster the forward lines and the ever-elusive right back positions as well. It’s promising to be a very busy day at Finch Farm, but will the notoriously slow Toffees actually complete any signings on time, and will they be of the kind that could make a difference as we try to make Europe.

Here are some of the players the Blues have been linked with in recent days leading up to deadline day.

Kenny Tete (Fulham) – The Toffees are close to finally adding a right back, even if they had to go back in time and kowtow to a player who had turned them down last season to stay at the Cottagers. Update from the evening though sounds like Fulham’s bid to sign his replacement has fallen through and Tete might not be coming after all, for the second year running!

Melvin Bard (RC Lens) – The 25-year-old has been linked this summer as a back-up for Vitaliy Mykolenko, and is being pursued by Hull City as well. The assumption was he would be brought in (if funds were available) when Adam Aznou went on loan, which was confirmed on Monday.

Richarlison (T0ttenham) – Everton apparently are trying to bring the fan-favourite Brazilian forward back for what seems like an exorbitant amount, up to £35 million including add-ons which seems a way overpay. He has had two good and two injury-ridden seasons with Spurs, and word is that he’s still negotiating terms with the Blues, likely on how long his contract will be. There does seem to more there with his Instagram posts on Monday evening basically begging for him to come back to Merseyside.

Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco) – With Beto now gone, and out-and-out striker is needed to challenge Thierno Barry, and the USMNT international could be the one. Under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons during this summer’s World Cup, Balogun is a product of the Arsenal youth academy and his movement and finishing in the box will give the Blues a different profile from Barry to work with. The two clubs have an agreement so this one is just a matter of time now, with a transfer fee of up to £40m.

Jack Grealish (Manchester City) – Despite what would be an exorbitant expense, rumours continue to fly about Everton’s interest in Grealish. His former club Aston Villa have been pushing for him but as of Monday evening the Toffees have the green light.

On the outgoings front, it looks like the ill-advised sale of youngster Harrison Armstrong has been thankfully terminated. Iliman Ndiaye will likely still be sold, and right now it appears it’s to Manchester City even as Tottenham and Arsenal lurk, who really knows. Tim Iroegbunam will be going to Hull City it looks like. There were also some rumours that Jake O’Brien could be sold, but that talk has also gone quiet. West Ham want Michael Keane, but we haven’t heard anything else. Nathan Patterson has no future at the club and should be moved on, but there is nothing we’ve heard on that front.

What time does the transfer window close?

The summer transfer window closes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 11 p.m. UK (6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT),  with an additional two hour period for clubs who have already submitted deal sheets in time.
