USA soccer star Folarin Balogun nixes transfer to Everton

Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Monaco's Folarin Balogun nixed a transfer to Everton and is on track to remain with the Ligue 1 soccer club.
Sources told The Athletic, ESPN and Sky Sports about the development Wednesday. Those outlets previously reported that Monaco and the English Premier League club agreed to a $52 million deal for Balogun's transfer on Monday.

The United States National Team star traveled to Everton on Tuesday for a physical. Sources told the aforementioned outlets that an "issue" arose related to that exam.
The deal was then renegotiated, but Balogun opted not to complete the transaction and left the Everton training ground.
Balogun, 25, spent the last three seasons at Monaco. He totaled 13 goals and four assists over 30 appearances during the 2025-26 Ligue 1 campaign.
Balogun, who led the United States Men's National Team with three goals during the 2026 World Cup, previously spent time at Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Reims.
Monaco sits atop Ligue 1, at 2-0. The Red and Whites will battle Paris Saint-Germain in their third game of the 2026-27 campaign at 3:05 p.m. EDT Friday in Paris.
The Parisians, who won the league the last five seasons, logged draws in their first two matches of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
