SANDILE ZUNGU’S POSITIVE REACTION TO SAFA PRESIDENTIAL DEFEAT
In a Facebook post on 12 September, Zungu thanked everyone who supported him throughout this presidential campaign.
He gracefully accepted the outcome and also personally congratulated his opponent, Danny Jordaan, proving he isn’t a sore loser.
“Such is the nature of contestations. You win some and lose some. I lost and have personally congratulated Dr Danny Jordaan. I am really very easy about my fate, and I am in very high spirits,” he wrote.
“Thank you everyone for believing I can champion the much-needed change in South African football. The voting delegates at the SAFA Elective Congress didn’t believe s,” he added.
Jordaan, who has served as SAFA president since 2013 after succeeding Kirsten Nematandani, has been re-elected, scoring 157 votes, while Zungu received 82 votes.
A DETERMINED SPIRIT
Zungu has consistently shown his determination through a series of Facebook posts. Just five days before the results were announced, he declared: “Friends, CHANGE at SAFA IS INEVITABLE. Please get it from me: VICTORY IS CERTAIN, come Saturday. #SZ2026.”
In another post, he wrote: “Unifying SAFA, I will. Ushering South African football into its golden era, that is exactly what I am going to do. I am more determined than ever before.”
SANDILE ZUNGU: AN ASTUTE ENTREPRENEUR
The name Sandile Zungu commands respect in South Africa’s business landscape. Born and bred in KwaZulu-Natal, the 59-year-old has worked his way up to seats at many important tables.
He is involved in several businesses, from Sizekhaya Holdings to AmaZulu FC, including his own company, ZICO Investments.
His late wife, Zodwa Zungu, founded the famous wedding venue in KZN, The Zunguness, where he also married his current wife, Nozipho KaMagubane Zungu, in 2022.
The exquisite venue also hosted the wedding of Maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose and his wife in December 2025.
