The Denver Broncos didn’t open the season how they wanted last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, losing 31-10. There were a lot of glaring issues for the team, but the one that stood out the most was the offensive struggles, as they only produced 176 yards from scrimmage. All eyes were on offensive coordinator Davis Webb, who is set to take over the playcalling this season.

Webb has already received criticism from fans, but head coach Sean Payton and the team are sticking by him and have a “high level of confidence and comfort” with him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Payton shared his support for Webb during the week and put the blame on several factors for their loss.

“I think that game didn’t go for any of us as we would’ve hoped,” Payton said. “Right? I mean, I said in the meeting this morning: There was dirt on a ton of people’s hands, starting with me.

“So we’ve got to learn from that. It’s a quick turnaround, you can’t get to the next game quick enough, and I’m sure it’s the same way for [Webb].”

This is not the first time that Payton has advocated for Webb, and when it was announced during the offseason that he’d be taking over the playcalling, the head coach truly believed in him. It’s just one week, so there shouldn’t be too much panic, but if things don’t change as the season goes on, it might be time to consider some changes.

Their Week 2 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be any easier, and they’re coming into the game with momentum after their dominant win against the Cleveland Browns.

Hopefully, the Broncos’ offense can find a rhythm in the game and get back to how they were playing last season.
