Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels out for Seahawks game after gruesome injury

Despite missing Sam Darnold for the majority of their first two games, the Seattle Seahawks have started the season with two straight wins and they’re set to take on a shorthanded Washington Commanders squad next, who’s starting quarterback recently suffered an all too familiar injury.

Commanders head coach Dan Quinn announced quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow, the same one he injured last season, in the team’s 37-20 Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He is set to undergo further testing on Monday, however the initial X-rays eliminated the possibility of a fracture.

Quinn added there’s “optimism” he’ll suit up again this season, although testing should help determine an exact timeline and whether the star quarterback will require surgery.

The injury occurred on 3rd and goal shortly before halftime when Daniels tried to brace himself on the turf after slipping while receiving the snap, and landed awkwardly.

It’s a crucial blow for the third-year quarterback who’s coming off an injury riddled 2025 campaign where he suffered a knee sprain and hamstring injury before the disastrous dislocated elbow in Washington’s 38-14 loss to the Seahawks. Daniels missed three games after the previous elbow injury.

Fast forward nearly a year later, and the Commanders are set to be without Daniels for the foreseeable future once again.

Backup Marcus Mariota recorded 111 passing yards as well as a touchdown in limited playing time against the Cowboys and he’ll remain under center for Washington’s Week 3 matchup against Seattle.

Seeking their first victory of the season, Mariota and the Commanders will be tasked with overcoming a dominant Seahawks defense who allowed just 151 total yards against Arizona.
